Your Stroller Guide
Picking a Stroller
A stroller is one of the most important baby purchases you will make and picking that stroller can be quite an undertaking. Your stroller shopping adventure can be made allot simpler if you prepare yourself by answering a few question.
1) Where do you plan to walk?
Will you do most of your walking on busy sidewalks or in shops? If so you will need a smaller stroller that can turn tightly and can swerve well on a busy sidewalk or between shop racks. Nothing is more frustrating then constantly getting your wheels caught up on racks. If you are more likely to be walking on pathways, rough sidewalks or in snow you will need a stroller with larger wheels. For snow or loose ground it is important the front wheels be large or you will end up plowing thought the slush or dirt, using a great deal of your much needed energy.
2) How often will you lift or fold you stroller?
All strollers fold differently, they can range from one hand one motion to multiple steps. A strollers weight can also very greatly. If you are going to be in and out of a car often, how easily a stroller folds, how heavy it is and how well it fits in your trunk are important factors. Consider where you will store your stroller when it is not in use and if you have to carry it up and down stairs. These factors will also help determine the size and weight you can afford your stroller to be.
3) Do you need a travel system?
A travel system is comprised of a carrier that clips securely on a base installed in your car to become your baby’s car seat. The carrier can also be clipped securely onto your stroller. The carriers usually hold babies from 5-22lbs. Some hold up to 30lbs. These systems make it much easier to transfer your baby form the car to the stroller. You can often make the transfer without even disturbing the baby, and with how often a baby falls asleep in the car or stroller, as smooth transfer can be essential.
4) Will you be running or working-out with your stroller?
If you plan to run or exercise with your stroller larger wheels are better. Again the larger wheels make the stroller easier to push allowing you to focus your energy on your workout. If you are looking at a three-wheel stroller be sure to check if the front wheel is fixed, pivots, or does both, making it more versatile.
So when it comes time to embark on your stroller shopping be certain to get the full run down on the strollers from the sales clerk, test drive, fold, unfold and lift them. Check the maximum weight capacity or age suggested and read online reviews from other mothers, they can save you allot of headaches.
Have fun!
